"Wolf Moon" is very interesting project of trance-ethnic music released
by independent company Triloka Records which specializes in this genre. Jim
Wilson produced the album, he is also the leader and organizer of the group
"Little Wolf".
Jim Wilson is a famous performer of American Indian music. He is an
author of the albums "Music For Native American's", (created together with
Robbie Robertson) and "Dream Song".
The style of "Wolf Moon" reminds another Indian project -- "Stonecoart".
The important difference is that the Jim Wilson's album is based on electronic
music, not on jazz. Waving, rising and slowly calming down sounds of "Wolf
Moon" evoke a mood of peace and dream. Native American singing intermitted
with slow narration strengthens this effect. It is worth mentioning that
the female trio "Walela" (Rita Coolidge, Priscilla Coolidge and Laura
Satterfield) adorning the album with thoughtful and airy vocal, and Geoffrey
Gordon brilliantly performing parts of traditional skin instruments, participated
in this project. Robbie Robertson took part in recording of the single (and
maybe most remarkable) composition "You'll be Happy Here On Mother Earth".
His guitar parts together with leisured electronics of Jim Wilson evokes
images with winter night and wolfs, howling to moon in desperate
hopeless.
I would suggest such an illustration for the album: a spirit or being,
looking as a dark pillar with its base at the soil and its peak somewhere
beyond visibility. Well, enough with visualizations. Listen "Wolf Moon" and
enjoy this original music.
